209

I now weigh 209 lbs. That is less than what I weighed when I was 21 and smoked cigarettes.

I am down 87 in weight watchers and 107 since I lost a few on my own before that.

Right now, I am getting over a nasty cold, and preparing to go back to sleep so I can get up at 5 am, and go warp the minds of high school students for an hour and a half. We have read Hamlet and Oedipus the King, and now we are reading Lysistrata. Day one, lots of giggles at words like cock, day 2, they were on to the serious aspect of the play. Good kids.

Spent 3 days reading Dylan's Chronicles vol 1. Brilliant man.

Got 3 rejections from the PhDs so far... keeping my fingers crossed, about the other 18 or so. Also lost the contests I was in. Hah!

I am wanting to slam Thursday night, but I also must see Maxine Chernoff's reading and buy her book. I don't think this is gonna be a slamteam year for me... There is lots of new blood who want it more, but I want to keep my finger in the till. I am hoping to generate some new material.

I've been dry mostly since Graduating from Antioch. Very busy with my teaching schedule. But at least I am still losing weight. Another Valentine's Day... with no one to infuriate. I think we will read Dante's inferno, The Odyssey, and Don Quixote. That should work well.

I owe it to Weight Watchers. I sound like a commercial, but it is a pretty nifty group. Not to say, that I couldn't have done it on my own, but WW made it fun.

The only problem with winning a slam is my ego gets inflated... but come finals, I imagine my ego will also be shrinking...

We got a buttload of wow in this slam community.

Uh... I mean that in a positive way, not the uh... thing that comes out of the ... uh... you know.

Here's the thing: there's a lot of Wow in the scene, sure. But you, Sir, contributed a lot of Wow to Thursday night's slam. Believe me when I say I am proud that you won. And you won by quite a few points. I really think you are more of a force than you make yourself out to be. And if you don't bring it to the Grand Slam, I will be mad at you. Mad, I say. Because you deserve to be in this whole crazy mess as much as anyone.

I will definitely bring it, because even if I don't make it, I will at least raise the bar for those who do, and will represent us in the Big T. Also, I got relatives in Houston so i will go to Nationals, competing or not. I just hope that this year doesn't turn into a repeat of 2004.

Less than Rick?

Dude, you now weight less than my fat Chinese food-eating ass. I wish I weighed the same as my 21 YO self - 175 lbs.

The only problem I foresee with you is dating. Now you CAN'T blame not getting laid on your weight, right?

Can the sensitive, intelligent and newly-thin Andy get a date? I'm pulling for you (metophorically that is).

Re: Less than Rick?

Thanks,

I am in therapy now, so maybe that will help me get over some of my walls that I put up between people and myself.

Don Quixote

Once, because it's not the sort of thing I would do twice, having read a fairly diluted, Spanish summary of the story about the fairly deluded Spanish knight, I set out to read the entire novel in Spanish.

An ambitious endeavor six years ago, I still haven't finished, and somewhere along the line, stopped trying.

Re: Don Quixote

I have only skimmed parts of it, the early parts, and so far it is very funny. I am reading an English translation, in the Norton Anthology of Western Lit, which is only partial. My spanish is horrible, so I will only read it in Anglais, until I have half a brain.
